In all honesty, I've been trying on and off. But no ideas that I like ever stick around so I end up scrapping them :(

Definitely your best one. Cause this has the most interesting melody. I'd lower the volume on the drums a bit so we can hear more of the melody. I'd change something at 00:41 like add a new instrument/change the melody. Other than that it's a good start. =D
